Synopsis
Set in New Jersey suburbia, circa 1979, Nearing Grace tells the story of Henry Nearing (Gregory Smith), a high school senior, who, deeply affected by the death of his mother, loses his bearings and falls in love with the alluring but elusive Grace (Jordana Brewster) while neglecting his best friend Merna (Ashley Johnson), the prototypical girl next door. Meanwhile, Henry watches somewhat helplessly as his father, Shep (David Morse), on a six-month bender since his wife’s death, falls into a dangerously dark depression.
Blinded by his lust for Grace, Henry drops out of high school a month before his graduation, only to discover his obsession with her is illusory. But now it may be too late to win back the heart of his true soul mate.
At turns funny, painful, ironic and bittersweet, Nearing Grace is directed by Rick Rosenthal (Bad Boys) and based on a novel by Scott Sommer.
